This 8-week course meets for up to 2 hours each week, at the same time on the same evening.
Description
Combined Learning Outcome – NZSL Level 1a & 1b
By the end of these courses, learners will be able to confidently communicate in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) across a variety of everyday topics and social situations.
They will develop the skills to exchange personal information, describe people and routines, discuss family and whānau, and talk about food, daily activities, and home life.
Learners will also be able to share personal experiences, including common household mishaps, to build relatable and engaging conversations.
Throughout the courses, learners will gain a solid foundation in NZSL grammar, vocabulary, facial expressions, eye gaze, and fingerspelling (A–Z and numbers 1–10).
They will learn to communicate effectively in classroom settings, respond to basic needs, and follow instructions.
Cultural understanding is woven throughout, enabling learners to engage respectfully with Deaf individuals and communities, while building inclusive and meaningful communication skills.
Prerequisites
A course can proceed only if it receives a minimum number of enrolments.
